Creative Industries
Shropshire has a large, diverse creative industry with highly innovative and dynamic companies operating throughout its many sub sectors. There are an estimated 2,280 creative businesses in the county, with an estimated turnover of more than £700 million, the commercial success of the sector is evident.
The Shropshire offer of a genuine work/life balance attracts designers, artists and photographers along with marketing, public relations and new- media agencies. Approximately 33 per cent of businesses operating in the creative industries are self employed and 43 per cent work from home. The highest proportion of new creative businesses in Shropshire are in film, advertising, software and computing services.
As the sector is developing and diversifying rapidly a number of creative business networks now exist. Creative Shropshire is a successful example of this and has been developed by businesses to support and develop the concentration of creative new media businesses in Shropshire. The aim of the network is to bring together companies in the county that work within the creative new-media field and to develop the sector through networking opportunities, sharing of ideas, increasing marketing potential as a group and promoting the county as an area of creative excellence.
