Shropshire Business Board

In June 2008 we established a Shropshire Business Board - chaired by Dr.Geoffrey Davies OBE – Managing Director of the McConnel Ltd and the Alamo Group Europe. The Business Board was established to provide private sector-led advice to Shropshire Council on economic development matters to ensure business views are taken in to account when developing economic policy.

The Board comprises of ten business leaders from within our Shropshire Ambassadors network, and a number of representatives from business support organisations including the Federation of Small Businesses, Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise and the Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands. 

An early priority for the Business Board was to review the county’s existing Economic Development Strategy and produce a three year Business Plan. This was adopted by the Council in January 2009.

Early tasks indentified by the Business Board include:-

  1. Local procurement- how to encourage more local businesses to tender and win contract with the council.
  2. Raising the profile of Shropshire as a business investment location.
  3. Business mentoring and sharing business expertise.
